Sterecycle (Rotheram) Ltd became the eighth company to be convicted of corporate manslaughter under the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 following the death of employee Michael Whinfrey. The waste management company were using autoclaves to recycle waste, when a failed door caused the machine to explode under high pressure resulting in the death of its operator. The case was trial by His Honour Judge Jay at Sheffield Crown Court. The company was unrepresented. CCTV of the explosion is available on YouTube A joint investigation conducted by South Yorkshire Police and the Health and Safety Executive found that the door of the autoclave had a problem with screw connections to the autoclave locking ring.
