Cavendish Masonary Limited became the seventh company to be convicted of corporate manslaughter under the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 following the death of 23 year old employee David Evans on 9 Feb 2010. Whilst renovating the home of the former Pizza Express director, Mr Evans died after being struck by a limestone slab. The case was heard at Oxford Crown Court. On 18 November 2014, Judge Patrick Eccles QC fined Cavendish Masonry £150,000 and ordered it to pay costs of £87,000. The company were charged with both Health and Safety at Work (etc) Act 1974 section 2(1) and aCorporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 1 (1).
