J Murray and Sons has become the fourth company to be convicted of corporate manslaughter under the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 following the death of an employee in February 2012 when pulled into an animal feed mixing machine. The case was heard at Belfast's Laganside Crown Court. The company was fined £100,000, plus £10,450 costs A joint investigation conducted by the Police Service of Northern Ireland and Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland showed that J Murray & Son had removed safety guards from the top of the mixer to allow raw ingredients to be added more easily.
