A manufacturing firm on Bath has been fined £15,000 and ordered to pay £1,741.12 in costs after a chuck key ejected from a lathe being operated without an appropriate guard.
The worker suffered a fractured eye socket and bruising to the brain which left him unable to work for 10 months following the incident.
The firm pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 11(1) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and Section 33(1)(c) and 33(2) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
