The Legal 500 - The Clients Guide to Law Firms

Professional Negligence Claims

The firm is the adviser for architects, surveyors and engineers (amongst other construction and engineering professionals) and their insurers in large and complex high-value cases.

We provide tailored support and a hands-on partner led approach, working closely with both insured and insurer to understand their needs. We also provide advice for BTE (Before-the-event) Legal Expenses Cover and ATE (After-the-event) Legal Expenses Cover in Professional Negligence Cases.

Architects Negligence
The majority of architects are regulated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) together with the Architects Registration Board (ARB). Our team have a firm understanding of the rules that govern the profession, the levels of competence expected and what can go wrong from erroneous advice and inadequate planning, to negligent building works.

Engineering Negligence
It is not surprising, given the value of many construction and engineering contracts, that there are professional negligence claims against engineers.

Given the highly specialised nature of the work it is important to have on board a solicitor who understands the industry. We have solid experience of claims against the following:

  • Civil Engineers - Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)

  • Structural Engineers - Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE)

  • Mechanical Engineers - Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)

  • Electrical Engineers - Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE)

  • Chemical Engineers - Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE)

Surveyors Negligence
The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) regulates chartered surveyors. RICS Regulation is responsible for ensuring that RICS members and firms meet the requirements of RICS' Rules of Conduct.

Our team has a firm understanding of the rules that define the professional, ethical and business standards which are expected of RICS members and firms.
