Family run firm A Diamond and Son (Timber) Ltd pleaded guilt to Corporate Manalughter appeared before Antrim Crown Court on 17th December 2014.
54-year-old Peter Lennon died on 27 September 2012. The company accepted that they had caused Mr Lennon’s death, by managing or organising their “activities in a way amounting to a gross breach of a relevant duty of care owed by ... to the said deceased”.
Jointly prosecuted by the Police and Health and Safety Executive the case was ajourned for sentencing.
Judge Desmond Marrinan explained that while the legislation provided for unlimited fines, it was first necesasary to examine the company strengths and profits. "The level of negligence is obviously significant otherwise there would not be a plea. What steps have been taken since this dreadful tragedy?"
